Preservation Laws cannot compete with political bribery.

Money talks, nobody walks.

There is no difference in removing historical statues from parks as compared to removing historical buildings from sites.
One voice belongs to the impoverished while the other voice belongs to the wealthy with all voices belonging to the people.

So there. ( Sarcasm )

Historical preservation laws were used by crooks like Sheldon silver to pack his voting district with religious Jews. He couldn't stand the idea of Chinese, Puerto Ricans, and blacks diluting his base. There's s reason why the coop apts in the lower east side are still majority Jewish. Meanwhile, the areas nearby are full of rundown tenement walk ups and nycha housing projects. Any new condo buildings would've been the importation of new blood. For decades he held up construction on Delancey street. After his arrest and removal from power the building restrictions were magically lifted.

Edit - of course he was still open to bribery by real estate developers which is how he got caught.

And some of them aren't and should be preserved and restored.

If they are landmarked, they should not just be torn down.

Very on brand for NYC and I'm okay with this. If you want to see every building preserved, go live in Europe.
