"Knowing that New Yorkers are struggling to find affordable housing, both Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams are setting lofty goals over the next decade to try to meet their needs.

But it remains unclear exactly how they’ll hit those targets, while also setting aside enough housing for lower-income residents.

Alicia Glen, the former deputy mayor of Housing and Economic Development under Mayor Bill de Blasio joined Bobby Cuza on “Inside City Hall” to talk more about the housing crisis and how to tackle it.

Since leaving office, Glen founded M Squared a real estate development and investment group focusing on mixed-income projects."

Tough problem. My own personal contribution is that tenants who don't appreciate what they get are also a problem to be solved.
If there was some sort of codicil that if you don't take care of the place or truly annoy your neighbors or sneak guests into the amenities on a regular basis you can be asked to vacate at the end of the current lease. No tears, fights or advocacy groups calling the landlord all kinds of inflammatory things accepted.
One young lady gave an alarming performance in the lobby because she was locked out and had allowed a guest access to her extra set and they made off with them.

NYC's current population is 8.8 million which puts the city past the limit of what it's 100+ year old aging infrastructure can safely handle. We already have too many people living here.

The challeng is IMMENSE to provide housing for such a diverse population.
Clearly "the market" is not up to the task.

Plenty of affordable housing in the middle of the country.
Pack and move.

There problem solved.

Then I guess we don't need it. All this nonsense about constructing 'social housing' will just create the nightmare of a 'NYCHA 2.0' loaded up the lowest kind of renters.

Except what NYC has is not “market” at all. Strict and excess government interference is what is causing the affordability problems.

This is pathetic.
40% of city housing residents are behind in their rents and Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams are
setting lofty goals over the next decade to try to meet their needs?

With over one million businesses in N.Y.C. , 300,000 available jobs, and 11% unemployment...... LAZEEEEEEEE.................

Looks like the hefty goals over the next decade might appear to be forced labor if the city wants to dig it's way out of this debt.

Well, some people want housing to be very excited. Some people think along the lines of "lack of affordable housing keeps the riff raff out".

When the government literally restricts the market to build more houses you have severe housing shortages causing the prices to go up.
You see this happening throughout the US now as more and more municipalities are passing more laws and barriers to restrict housing.
