So wearing a Rolex in Manhattan is a no no now ?
Leaving explorer at home. Not worth the headache and I’m not giving it up without a fight.

This isn't the first time a luxury watch is stolen from someone walking in the streets of Manhattan.

A quick Youtube search leads to this that happened a year ago.

NYC is more dangerous now than a few years ago, but I think these are still exceptions. It's like women jogging alone in the city's parks. Yes, a very small number of them end up victims of an attack and/or rape, but it's a very small number of them. Most jogging women don't suffer that ever.

i don’t know if things are worse now ..i think the fact we have video documentation all over that captures things now and makes it known is more likely the issue

They're worse because they're more random. Crime in the 80s/90s was mostly inner city gang crime associated with the crack epidemic, those people were not just robbing random citizens on the street. So while the raw numbers might not be as high as they were at the worse, the class of victims has changed.

If this is what makes you sleep better at night

The causations for crime have not changed, whether we're in the 1980s, 1990s or today

Compare to 2013-2019 numbers crime is up but 2020-2022 it is down.

All this high end property isn’t worth rising your life. If your not armed and someone has a firearm why risk it? All of it should be insured with a reputable company.
