Ever notice how NY never even tries to educate pedestrians or cyclists on how to properly conduct themselves on the road or crossings?

It's on purpose, the more people who get hit and killed, the more laws they can push.

Same reason crime and homelessness are NEVER solved, without them politicians couldn't keep taking money for "programs" and making new laws to tighten the knots around our necks

Seventy-eight people in New York have been killed this year in traffic crashes, according to city data, putting 2024 on track to be the deadliest year since the start of the city’s Vision Zero traffic safety program in 2014.
The deadly statistics follow those of 2023, which had a particularly low rate of pedestrian deaths, the DOT said.
“We grieve for the loss of any life on our streets,” DOT spokesman Nick Benson told the Daily News. “After 2023, a year that saw near-record-low pedestrian fatalities and record-high production of protected bicycle lanes in New York City, we remain dedicated to our Vision Zero goals.”
The grim numbers prompted criticism of Vision Zero, the city’s initiative to improve street safety, from Transportation Alternatives, a cycling and safe-streets advocacy group.

Because Vision Zero gives people the false sense of security crossing the street on foot or bike.
NYers are taught they have the right of way on any road regardless of situation. They will find out with their lives whether this risk is worth betting every time they cross the road without looking or thinking.

Doesn't matter if the speed limit is 20mph or 5 mph. It doesn't take much speed even at 2mph to knock and kill someone with a car that weights 2800-6000lb.

These government and DOT all failed at science or they simply don't care and they are making all issues a matter of collecting revenue rather than actually saving lives.

Even if NYC completely eliminated cars, bikers will still die from self inflicted accidents and pedestrians will die from being hit by bikes. This is all a tragedy created by ignorance.
The bolded being the cause of the increase in deaths wouldn't shock me in the least. Vision Zero seems to be having the opposite impact as intended.

Well stated!!

With respect to the "more guns" comment, it's the law abiding people, who in many cases, are driving up gun ownership. It's because the liberals' lack of meaningful punishment of criminals, is forcing the everyday citizen to have to be ready to defend himself, his family, and/or his home. AND at the rate that LEOs are being attacked/killed, pretty soon there won't be any of them to help maintain order, either.....

Vision Zero - the quest to make the speed limit the same as its creator's (DeBlowHole) IQ score - ZERO

Yeah, the reckless drivers were doing 50 in a 30 and see the speed limit decreased to 25 (soon 20) and suddenly they're going to pay attention.

Or they'll continue to go whatever speed they want.

In the cities where I've lived, I think crossing the street with the light and walking on the sidewalk instead of in the street would reduce accidents. In other words, pedestrians shouldn't passive-aggressively try to make drivers stop or go around them. That, and roads are for cars, not bikes. I saw so many people in Denver's suburbs biking on a road next to a perfectly good bike path.

Vision Zero teaches people to become careless when crossing the street. It simply holds car drivers accountable because only cars are required to be registered, licensed, and insured. While bikes and any powered small vehicles are ignoring all traffic rules and many of them operated by illegals.

I don't know how the government can allow illegals to operate any vehicles that are unlicensed, uninsured, and no accountability if they hit and kill someone.

This is our government at work, zero accountability to it's citizens. But I'm all for it because people voted for these clowns who let the illegals in and exploit a system of zero accountability as long as people vote democrats in power nothing will be done.

Vision Zero means more people will get hurt due to all of the bikes and illegal vehicles that are immune to law.
