Considering move from Washington DC Metro area to New York City, seeking advice on; reputable moving agencies, fees, clean studio in Manhattan that allows cats, 70K salary per year
You definitely shouldnt be looking for apartments in Manhattan with that salary. Unless your going to live some roomies.. check out some parts in Brooklyn such as Bed Stuy. the commute to Manhattan will be about 40 min and the rent there is a about 20% cheaper than Manhattan
OP. You cannot afford to live in Manhattan on your salary. You need to look into Brooklyn or since you will be working in midtown, Queens would be a better bet but even in the outer boroughs you are going to have to adjust your standard of living in a big way. And get rid of the car asap.
Interesting comments about DC vs NY. I don't think one is any better than the other, they both have great perks to living in each. As for cleanliness, I don't notice that much of a difference other than DC not being as "tall". More sun seems to reach the ground here.
If I move to NY, my salary will go up a little from $62K to about $70-72K to cover the increased cost of living but I don't know if it's enough to live in Manhattan with a car. I'm considering the move to work in my field of study in school - my office's public relations dept - which is located in NY - not in DC. Our NY office offers a lot more opportunities for someone with my background. Where I am now is a job and I'm looking for a career.
As for amenities, I'm not into museums, shows and artsy stuff. I'm a homebody for the most part. My home is my castle and that's where I generally hang out.
Is it legal to live in NY and register my car in NJ? That seems shady. Wouldn't my dad have to be on the title or something? Or do I just have to use his address as mine? I don't want to get into trouble - I'm an honest gal.
I still don't know what I'll do. I'm looking for a public relations job down here and well, we all know how the economy is. I'll keep reading the posts so thank you for your advice.
