Hello everyone from the Miami boards. I am heading to NYC on a Thursday in July to see a concert. As I booked a return flight the next day leaving JFK at 5:40am, I was thinking about killing time in Manhattan until 4:00am instead of getting a hotel room and wasting $200 or $300.

Is my idea off base, or can I survive the city for one night? Will I be able to find a few places that are intimate and relaxing that would serve me a few drinks until late? Is Manhattan safe for walking at night? I have not been to the city in almost 10 years, so I know very little.

Thanks for your help.

New York bars are open until 4 a.m. After you stop for some munchies, you will need to leave Manhattan at pretty much by 4:15 for a 5:40 am flight anyway. You will have lots of company in neighborhood bars in any of the populated areas in Chelsea, village, etc. Your biggest fear should not be safety or things to do but making that 5:40 flight.

Try this link.

Lounge New York | Yelp

I think there are hundreds of places that fit your description. Maybe the people on this board are not late-night people.

Of course it is safe..or you can always hail a yellow taxi cab. Depends on what your scene is..You can try Meatpacking or hotel bars (like W or 230 5th) if you're into classier bars and lounges..or there's tons of dives in the East and West Village area.

Plenty of bars in the city or you could go to a 24 hour starbucks if that is your thing. But be careful on making it all the way out to jfk. Its a long cab ride so give yourself the time to make to the airport and through the joke they call security. Enjoy your trip.
