That IS really awful. And I imagine it got hard to not pop him one. That should be merit for throwing someone off the train. I live in Portland, OR, and I've seen bus-drivers, and lightrail operators, expell people for less.

I do have a question. Is there no way to buzz the train operator when there's a problem with one of these people? And it's like someone else mentioned in another post ~ you don't know if the preacher is mentally ill.

I was bothered by a particularly obnoxious one waiting for the Staten Island Ferry last Sunday night. Got there early since their website noted every 15 min (it was by then - every hour). He drowned out the broadcasting. Lots of people were rolling their eyes so I could tell nobody liked it - also nobody was listening. Why DO we tolerate this? Why did I? My DH was with me for one reason. If I was by myself I 'might' have said something (DH would be horrified). I guess we are polite to a fault. I might do what the previous posted mentioned - asked everybody to raise their hand or something. Sometimes it takes just one person (I would raise my hand and support you)

I was soooo mad! I never knew my eardrums could hurt so much. And I think because we experience so much craziness we ignore stuff very well. I would have continued to ignore his crap if he wasn't right in my ear. And whenever I see these people who are preaching at the top of their lungs I always look for a police officer at all the stations. I wouldn't bother the conductor with this because I wouldn't want to delay the train just for that.

You wouldn't be bothering the conductor. He/she has a radio, and can call in complaints while the train is moving.

Wouldn't the train have to wait in the station for whoever to respond to the call??
