Trip to New York City (Liberty, Rose: city hall, hotel, train)

My wife & I are planning a trip to New York city this Spring & would like to stay near Central Park. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would try to stay on the south side of Central Park, closer to midtown and all the good tourist stuff. If you get the chance go to lower Manhattan. The subway during the day is safe. Walk to Grand Central and start where everyone would meet "at the clock in Grand Central" from there take the IRT subway #4 or #6 train to City Hall. The Brooklyn Bridge is across the street from City Hall. Walk over to the East River and then south on South St. This will take you to the Seaport Museum, gereat place for lunch. Continue South to Wall St. take a right on wall St. the stock exchange is there keep heading west to Broadway, left on B'way heading south. on the right is Trinity Church behind there is the "hole" formerly the WTC. Keep going south to Battery Park and take the Staten Island ferry round trip. The best deal in all of NYC fantastic views of the skyline, harbor and Statue of Liberty. On the way back, Little Italy, Umberto's for Dinner and Ferrara's for espresso and pastries. Enjoy!

It's also worth venturing north - on both East and West sides of the park: on the east side there's museum row, with the Metropolitan Museum, the Guggenheim and others. On the west, the American Museum of Natural History and the Rose Center at the Planetarium. Nearby are Zabar's and the rest of the Upper West Side - always a lot of fun.

The Millenium Hotel is at the SW corner of the park. CNN is located in the building and several upscale stores. It's expensive. There's a subway station and busses right in front and always something going on.
