Cooking on electric stoves is DREADFUL. Gas is much, MUCH better. If I had a choice between two apartments, one with a gas stove, the other with electric, there's no doubt it'd be gas, hands down.

PC Richard has a good selection of appliances. Although they aren't a deep discounter. I hope you can find something in your "range" :-)

Try Gringer and Sons, on East 1st Street, in Manhattan. MUCH better stuff than PC Richard. Or Drimmers in Brooklyn - they, too, have nice stuff and will match prices.

YOu can find both by Googling. I haven't been to Gringer in the five years since my kitchen was renovated, so I don't remember.
