i was in new york last weekend for the 1st time.. i took a taxi to my hotel.. the taxi "computer" showed i owe around $30 and zero toll..
driver said i owe $30 + $5 for toll.. i paid without question and even added tip.. but still wondering if i got ripped by $5 since "computer" said zero $ for toll..
the issue is not about $5 but i want to be wiser next time so i wont be fooled..
well yeah i know i pay for toll but how come the computer showed "zero" toll?
i came from la guardia to manhattan.. i just dont wanna be fooled next time a driver just says additional $20 for 4 tolls!
I don't think the machine always picks up the tolls.. you probably have to press a button or something. Taxi drivers don't usually bother with this stuff. If you passed a toll, you have to pay it.
The cab drivers have to manually add the toll fees to the computer since they generally pay with E-Z Pass, but most don't since the toll is a fixed price. So no worries, you didn't get screwed.
