Stores in BERGEN COUNTY are closed on Sundays. Don't associate the rest of us with those bluenoses. Hudson (including Hoboken & JC), Essex, Passaic (Willowbrook mall -- seem to be a lot of Port Authority buses to there), Monmouth, Middlesex, and Union counties are all open for business on Sunday.
I think you're over stating this a little. Or atleast acting like the majority of nyc is open 24/7. Most of nyc is no different than other major metro cities. With the exception of some of the bodegas that remain open 24/7.
Most food available late night, is garbarge food. Good when you're drunk, but that's about it. There are exceptions, but they ain't the rule, or the norm.
About that drunk thing...
4AM last call is very different from other major cities. Only Miami is open later (24 hrs).
Yes, there are a few in Manhattan, with a few more scattered in outer boroughs. But, the number of stores is low, relative to other areas of the country, and 7-11 recently reopened in Manhattan, after the chain pulled out in the late 70s/early 80s. The stores are different, too, than other areas -- more food options, and different concepts to suit the city.
There's one at 23rd & Park Avenue, another on the UES on Third & 82nd, and one not far from the Port Authority Bus Terminal on W 42nd between 8th & 9th Avenues. Those are the stores I know of, personally, but there are some more in Manhattan, but not too many yet.
There is also one in Chelsea.
I will agree definitely not a lot in the city compared to how big the city is.
the Post Office on 32nd & 8th is open 24/7! not REALLY.. the teller windows are only operational until 10pm but the self service machines are available for use all the time always. i love NYC <3
