My friends, things are in many ways as bad as they could be.

The new Deputy Mayor is a HARD right-wing conservative Republican that Bloomberg slipped through the back door. He sat as chairman of the Manhattan Institute, a HARD right wing "think tank", focusing on social policies, financial policies, legislative polices, etc, etc....

His many titles and positions throughout the country are to numerous to list here. Possibly the most relative post he held was his 2 terms as the mayor of Indianapolis.

Privatization is a word this man uses often. When I say often, I really mean it. It is a word that, more accurately, is CENTRAL, to his belief structure. It is what he believes, regardless of what he might say currently in the media, is a SOLUTION. A solution to what he believes are problems. The problems are YOU.

You do not deserve your salary. You do not deserve your privacy. You do not deserve your title.

What makes sanitation so special? I want you all to seriously ask yourself this question. Has anybody REALLY trained you to do anything particularly unique?

Does not dsny train DOT for their cdl's on FBF?
Certainly...

Do Parks Dept. workers have cdl's? Do they pick up trash? Baskets?? You mean they operate garbage trucks? You mean DOT operates garbage trucks? On the highway no less.... pretty special.

So what makes sanitation so special?.... Anything good yet??

Snow. Snow makes us special right? Well DOT can help on the highways. I guess they are a little special. Well, DOT can tandem in your district. I guess they are kinda special. Well, if one DOT truck breaks down the foreman can order him to assist you in a tandem soooo... Maybe they have the potential to be special.

Potential. Focus on this word. This word could destroy your job as you know it.

Why? Simple. There is only one reason dsny is special. DSNY is a UNIFORMED FORCE.

Why is DSNY a UNIFORMED FORCE??? Mostly, because of the snow.

My friends, the gauntlet has been laid and the bell has been tolled. This Goldsmith, as of this very moment has refused to hire the necessary man-power to properly run DSNY snow functions. Flat out refused.

He has offered a variety of possibilities to help cover the shortage of sanmen. "Working-Foremen", Longer extended mandatory over-time, and of course.....

...other departments.

That's right. You might see a Parks worker or a DOT driver show up at your district one snowy evening. TO get in YOUR truck and do YOUR job. At YOUR EXPENSE.

This is a lot to digest at this point in time. Of course the detractors can puff their chest out and exclaim that, "it ain't gonna come to that".

And you can choose to believe them and that's your prerogative.

However, let me emphasize the main point upon conclusion.

Deputy Goldsmith wants to END redundant job tasks by merging these "similar" job functions, break down the "bureaucracy of civil service", breakdown inefficient "job rules" and SAVE MONEY.

If somebody other than a sanitation worker drives a sanitation vehicle to perform sanitation duties... you are NO LONGER A SANITATION WORKER. You are ANYTHING "similar" they might need you to be.

Try negotiating a contract when a parks dept. worker making 35k is doing your job.

This is it men.... There is only ONE answer to this problem. Whether you like it or not. Whether you are scared or not. Be prepared mentally because this is NOT A JOKE.

Uniformed=Unique=Special=$$=Benefits

Merge=Un-uniformed=Ordinary=Loss of $$=THE END.

P.S. To all the senior men.... THIS WILL AFFECT YOU EVEN DURING RETIREMENT. YOUR RETIREMENT HEALTH COVERAGE IS DEPENDING ON CONTINUED HIRING.

So Local 831 doesn't have a strike fund then? Union dues?
$768.00 year per sanman.
Harry Nespoli endorsed Bloomberg for this 3rd term, I wonder what he got in return for that, just saying.....

Since NYC technically owns DSNY vehicles, can another city worker like a parks dept or DOT employee come into a garage and take out a truck for snow plowing if needed? Can they do that?

Not only can they do it they can also have people from private companies take out those trucks. The problem is that since people from other city agencies and those of private companies dont normally drive these trucks it would be dangerous for the public to have people outside sanitation drive them. Do they realize how hard it is to drive a truck with a plow? Because if you arent careful someone could get hurt and property can get damaged.
