I agree with most of the comments. Clinton Hill is pretty safe. You will like it.

Hi,
I grew up in the Lower East Side and left NYC in 1976. My family still lives in the city. In a few weeks we'll be coming to NY and have house swapped for a place very close to St James Pl on Fulton.

Of course when I was a kid this part of the city was a no man's land.

Is it safe now? Can we feel safe getting off the Clinton/Washington C train at night for instance? Or better to get off at Jay St Borough Hall or Dekalb and take the bus?

I was concerned by your remark (above quoted) that Fulton between Washington and Franklin was a real ghetto, that's EXACTLY where we're staying!

Any info and tips would be GREATLY appreciated

Clinton Hill is rapidly gentrifying. 10 years ago, not safe. Today, you're fine.
