Cool NEED A House, can't afford NYC. Just married, Help

I am a young accountant working in midtown. I recently got married and I need a new house for my wife and me. I was just visiting my wife's aunt in Orange County and now I am considering moving some where similar with a commute of no more than an hour and a half using mass transit. Oh yea, my budget is 350k. Do homes in nice neighborhoods fitting all my requirements exist? Thanks in advance.

You can definately find homes for 350k in Orange County. Won't be anything spectacular, but a decent starter.

Now if you would consider a townhouse, you can get get something really nice for 350 in the town of Woodbury

A 1.5 hour commute each way is going to be rough. Can't you find anything closer than Orange county?

Default Thanks for the sugestions

Thanks for the suggestions, I am worried that 350K would not buy me much now, from the previous comments (starter house). What should be a decent amount for me to spend for a nice community and at the max 2hr commute into midtown.

Klaw,

You should have no problem at all finding a home in the 350K range in Orange County that will completely suit your needs. There is plenty on the market and the interest rates are still very good.

Depending on what type of home and bed/bath requirements you have you should be able to put yourself in the Monroe/Woodbury area easily. Most buyers coming up from the city start looking there and normally end up branching out a little because you can get a little more home for a little bit less with another 10-15 minute drive.

Good luck on your search and don't hesitate to ask questions if you have any. If one of us doesn't know the answer we'd be more than happy to point you into the right direction.

Take Care!!!

~Joey

I concur with Joey. Conduct a variety of searches on Realtor.com using different ZIP codes or towns. You will an assortment of nice homes in your price range.
