Could anyone tell me about Newburgh? How are the schools, employment, etc. There are low priced homes I've found but never been. I live on Long Island. Have 2 kids, single mom, college graduate. Elementary age, one autistic. Taking a drive there is not feasible right now so just want opinions and experiences from others.

There are TWO Newburghs: City of Newburgh, and Town of Newburgh. They share a border and an enlarged school system with New Windsor, but otherwise are two completely different universes.

Not trying to give a completely bad impression, but here are some pics from when I visited the City of Newburgh back in 2008:

Compared to most of the other Hudson River cities I visited, Newburgh had a long way to go to recover.

Newburgh has one or two sketchy parts off of Broadway.

However, there are some nice areas to be found.

Waterfront area is being developed. Lots of great restaurants.

You should take a drive there before you commit to moving. Visit one of the stores and ask a local about places to

avoid.

It's not all bad as many make it seem.

But always undestand, the City of Newburgh is not the Town of Newburgh.
