IMO, the future of the triple cities is bleak. The weather is abysmal, the housing stock is mostly old and dilapidated, the high tech sector that once shone a bright light on the area is gone for the most part and the other big companies like Endicott Johnson, GAF, Crowley's, etc. are long gone. There are a few manufacturers left like Universal Instruments, L-3 Link Simulations and McIntosh Stereo Labs but they may be gone in the future. The only bright spot is Binghamton University.

Bingo and surroundings are not the kind of area that young up and comers want to move to. They prefer the big hip cities where there's a lot of action. Bingo is just too dull.

That isn't it, as deindustrialization has hurt the Triple Cities, as Endicott and Johnson City were company towns built around the Shoe industry created by the Endicott-Johnson Shoe Company. IBM, which was based in Endicott has all but just about left the area as well and with pollution, no less.

Also, the Binghamton area, while there is some degree of crime in the Triple Cities in select areas, the metro is usually one of the safest of its size in the country.

What is perhaps ironic about your post is that the area was the HQ for the state KKK at one time, when the group was at its peak due to the influx of Southern and Eastern Europeans coming to the area to work at E-J factories and the slowly, but steadily growing Black community, which has always been there, as well.

Binghamton is trying to or has some degree of a younger scene, as this appears to be evidence of that: Binghamton Events | BingPop

Here is another good site with information: Welcome -The Gorgeous Washington street Association

This group is based in the area: Southern Tier Young Professionals
