As soon as I saw Denver, Colorado listed as #1 in the USA, I sort of lost interest in this list. How do you narrow the list down to only New York State?

You have to scroll down and after every 10 areas listed, you just click on the read more button to load more areas.

Just to let people know, Albany is 36th on the list.

Greenville is a growing area and is in the biggest metro in SC. With that said, I get it.

I believe for the other NY areas, the order goes Syracuse, Buffalo, Rochester and NYC, with the first 3 not being too far from each other, if I'm not mistaken.

Info for each area: Albany, NY | U.S. News Real Estate

Syracuse, NY | U.S. News Real Estate

Buffalo, NY | U.S. News Real Estate

Rochester, NY | U.S. News Real Estate

New York City, NY | U.S. News Real Estate

Surprising ranking of the Upstate cities. I would have ranked Rochester the highest of the bunch and Albany probably the lowest. NYC ranks between Fresno and Bakersfield, CA in the bottom 5 cities?!

Yeah, it is for metro areas and the criteria, like many of these similar lists can be geared towards certain areas to be ranked higher than others. So, that may be something to keep in mind.

I read an article yesterday that listed the 100 favorite dogs Americans like, it would be easier to have a list of what was excluded. This list is similar after the first 10 or 20 what does it really matter that this community is .05 higher than this one in whatever, people are going to choose an area based on their needs, employment, family etc. Even Detroit still has people moving in because they need to, maybe you or I wouldn't choose it but for many that is their selection.

Good points and just to use Detroit as an example. It is a big metro of over 4 million people in a region of 5 million people. So, it will have a range of urban communities within that metro/region like Royal Oak or Ann Arbor due to its size. Some metros on this list will have more flexibility than others and even have metropolitan divisions within them.

I only picked it because it is the current whipping post for all things negative in a community....
