Nope, no dog in this fight. Just highlighting information about an area that doesn't get mentioned much on this forum. (Shrug)

Here's a much older article that gets into when and how the economy started to grow a bit in the area: All Points North - Plattsburgh: Top 10 Ranked Community in the United States

Another older segment: Plattsburgh ranked 2nd best American Micro City of the Future - WCAX.COM Local Vermont News, Weather and Sports-

Default Bad choice

Plattsburgh has a serious meth/heroin problem. The air force departure left the county without a decent tax base to provide basic services. The city/county government is totally dysfunctional. Lake Champlain is very polluted with no plan to clean it up. Taxes rise every year and will continue to do so. Jobs are mostly low paying service/retail and the rental units are in shambles. After 33 years there take my advice and look elsewhere.

So, all of that job and economic growth is incorrect? Hasn't the Air Force base been used for private company growth, given that many of the companies mentioned earlier in the thread are located there? How is the city/county government dysfunctional? Have beaches on the Lake been shut down? How are rental units in shambles? I'm surprised that you forgot to mention "facilities" in the area as another source of employment.

While I'm sure drugs are an issue, just like any place across the country, it seems like what comes from the media is mostly coming out of VT up that way.

Pay no attention to those dead-enders with their "fill in the blank city" sucks. They are every where.
