Just curious if anyone knows what is left of the Jewish community in the Utica area. There used to be a fairly large one (had between 3500 to 5000 at peak). Like most of the upstate cities, I suspect the population has mirrored the larger population. Does anyone have current population stats? congregations? We had family there years ago, was curious.
I know this is an old post, but I was wondering if anyone had any updates or additional info on Jewish life in Utica? I may be moving there for a new job.. some google searching has confirmed that there are three synagogues in Utica, but only the Reform shul has a website and it doesn't include service times or a synagogue bulletin. ANyone have any info?

I think many people of the Jewish community live in South Utica(straddling Memorial Parkway), New Hartford and Clinton. Both are very nice suburbs of Utica, with good schools too.
Here's another question, not sure if you (or anyone) would know the answer - where would one look to rent an apartment in the area of South Utica you mentioned? It looks like all three synagogues and the JCC are in that area, so I'd definitely like to live there if possible. I've tried generally looking at apartments on Utica craigslist and most of them are "take over this mortgage" type scams, and the online classified section of the local paper doesn't list very much. Does anyone know of any local brokers or other resources for Utica rentals?
