I have just recently moved to the town of Granville in Washington County of upstate NY. I currently have an account with Verizon Wireless but the coverage up here is spotty at best and non-existent at worst. I have decided that is is no longer worth it to keep an account with Verizon as I do not have much use for their services in such a rural area. However, I do realize the importance of having a cell phone for emergency purposes and I was wondering if anyone from the Granville area or anywhere nearby would have some recommendations for a reliable prepaid cell phone brand. I would like to own a prepaid cell phone just for emergencies but I must be get one that will have coverage up here. I have heard of Trac-phone and some other brands but which one is the best? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Hi, my wife and i both have track phones from walmart and we have no problem at all. we live about 15 miles north of utica. we have had ours about four years. we get a signal all around our area. i have a friend that has verizon and doen't get a signal at my house but me and my wife both do. hope this helps.
thanks! I'm thinking about getting the trac phone. I called them earlier just to confirm that they would have coverage in the area and they said it would not be a problem.
the pay as you go services all have to access some other companies cell towers and I had heard that Trac Phones work off of Verizon' s cell signals. I think it was TMobile worked off the Sprint towers? I am sure there are many, many people much more knowledgeable about this subject than I am, but I had a Trac Phone for awhile, then switched to Verizon and the coverage seemed exactly the same up here. My friend who has Unicel has dead spots in totally different areas up here............Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.........Trac Phones are cheaper......that's for sure!
