Hi,

I'm relocating from Ridgefield, CT to New York for a new job in Parsippany, NJ. Any ideas on some quaint towns to consider that are within a 50 miles distance. I'll be commuting 2-3 days a week. I'm thinking that having to cross the Tappan Zee/MC bridge would get expensive and would be going with traffic (I'm not sure if this is correct).

Truly appreciate suggestions and insights regarding traffic patterns!

Nyack/South Nyack, Piermont, Pearl River and Suffern in Rockland County are some that come to mind. Warwick and Greenwood Lake in Orange County would be within the distance criteria. No bridge involved in regards to communities in either county as well.

Parsippany is along I-287 in New Jersey with that said Suffern would be you best NY choice. It would allow a straight shot down and back plus avoid all the NYC traffic that you would encounter on the Garden State & I 95.

Is there a reason that your not looking at New Jersey? There a plenty of small towns to choose from and it would make the drive easier .

You can certainly commute from Rockland to Parsippany, but if you are starting fresh, it might make more sense to move a lot closer to Parsippany itself. A lot of nice towns within a short radius, and if you head west on 80, housing costs should diminish quickly.

I am not sure of the north to south traffic, however from the west (exit 19) via rt 80 to Parsippany at rush hour could take up to an hour. Nice towns vs quaint is the question. I would use a compass, draw a 30 mile circle and check out the towns. Also a huge differential in costs. Check out the areas, fill out the sticky for moving referring what is important to you.
