A reference from Caledonia in Livingston County(attended Caledonia-Mumford), that played Football at Boston College and was a 22 year veteran of the Rochester Police Department: https://rbj.net/2020/06/10/football-...sitive-change/

His dad was a 1959 grad of Caledonia-Mumford and his son went to Canandaigua HS and also played Football at Boston College. His daughter played Basketball at the University of Vermont. A brother I believe played Football at the University of Tennessee. Another brother is a pastor of a church in Henrietta.

Caledonia-Mumford and rival Le Roy in Genesee County are small town communities with long time, visible black populations that have been around for well over a century. Both have a Second Baptist Church that serve those communities and many have roots in VA, particularly the Culpeper area. There are certain surnames you will find within said populations in both communities as well.

Cuomo: Make Juneteenth An Official Holiday: https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/ce...ficial-holdiay

It would’ve been nice to tie it in with Emancipation Day in NY, which commemorated the ending of slavery in NY State on July 4th, 1827: https://history.nycourts.gov/when-di...d-in-new-york/

To separate from the 4th of July, Emancipation Day was celebrated on July 5th for a period of time within the state: https://newyorkalmanack.com/2017/12/...-5th-movement/

So, in terms of NY State, July 5th would have been a good choice given the history behind it.

Both attended Onondaga Central, a suburban/rural SD south/SW of Syracuse(Nedrow is a small working/middle class suburb just south of Syracuse is where much of the district’s black population is concentrated. There are 3 churches that worship out of the African American tradition there and has a good Jamaican take out restaurant. Some also live in parts of the Onondaga Hill portion of the district as well(some in the Tabitha Creek development and some in nearby apartments/homes).
