Hello. I would like to know the best city to live in that is between Buffalo and Rochester, NY? One will be working in Buffalo and the other in school in Rochester, NY. We will be moving from Pittsburgh, Pa. We're not from here. Thank you
Churchvillie is a nice place to live,,, but it is a suburb of Rochester. And while not too far from the Thruway (I-90) it is not a city. As Melkat wrote, The only city between Roch. & Buffalo is Batavia.
Yeah, churchville is a nice town, but definitely a suburb of Rochester and not really a city or town of it's own identity. Batavia really is the only " city" between the two...and it is really just a town of about 10,000 people. Rochester and Buffalo are very close, there is only one county between them....Genesee County, and that's where Batavia is.
Amherst is outside of Buffalo and definetly not halfway..a general mapquest says that from Amherst to Rochester is 68 miles..Batavia to Rochester is 36 miles and Batavia to Buffalo is 41 miles..that is as close to half way as you can get
Take a look at the village of LeRoy. It's a small village with lovely Victorian era buildings and homes, AND it's home to the Jello Museum. Also close to the amazing Genesee Country Museum.
Genesee County has many small villages that are worth consideration. Good luck with your search.
On that note--Genessee County towns & villages--can you recommend/rank your top choices? Although we're leaning heaving toward Central NY, I've always thought Genesee County quite lovely, but don't know too much about its towns/villages.
We particularly like places like LeRoy, so you could use that as your benchmark for ranking other Gen. County places.
I know the area is economically depressed, but no one ever mentions Medina or Lockport, and the other small villages surrounding them. This area has fabulous old homes that they're practically giving away. In Medina you can get a 2,800 sq.ft.+ Victorian (fixer) for less than $90,000. I just looked at a 5 1/2 acre property with a 4,800 sq.ft. historic stone house and 3 outbuildings for $109,000 on Ridge Road, which runs from Rochester to Lewiston, through Orleans and Niagara counties. Ridge Road also has unique historic cobblestone buildings. I saw one in Murray selling for $76,000. Yes, there are some areas that are worse than others (as with anywhere), but for an area with country/small town living, quiet with low-crime, loaded with history, and with close proximity to large urban centres, this is the place to be. IMHO this area of Upstate NY will recover from its economic wounds (eventually) due to its great location, historic charm, and natural beauty.
