My husband works in NJ and lives in NYC.
He paid NY state income tax but not NY city or NJ state. We knew that the company wasnt going to take out NY city tax but our tax guy said they should have taken out NJ non resident state tax. Nonetheless, he says we owe $1200. This was very disturbing to me because he gets taxed at a single rate with 0 deductions so we were getting the most taken out.
My husband asked his employer today and they said that what we pay to NY state tax should have covered this. Does anyone know? Should we have been double taxed, paying both NY and NJ state tax?
