I am thinking of trading my truck on a Versa or Sentra. Are these cars reliable given their CVT? Are they as reliable as Yaris and Corolla?
I have a Rogue and have no complaints about the CVT. There are times when it will slip and rev the engine a little too high for my tastes but it is an extremely efficient transmission. It keeps the engine rpm's at the peak efficiency. With the Rogue, I have the 2.5 liter 4 cylinder, which has quite a bit of torque so it really lugs good around town. Sometimes my rpms are barely 1000 when I'm going 35 mph or so.
This is my 4th Nissan in my life and I've never had to have anything done to any of them except maint and recall work

I don't have any issues with my Altima Coupe. The transmission is smooth, and acceleration is smooth during spirited driving. I also love the exhaust note of the V6; I will admit, the G37's exhaust note is a little better since it's a little louder.
The older CVT's pre-2011 tended to have a lot of issues, especially the ones from early-mid 2000's. Those got covered under an extended warranty which was good on all 2002-2010 MY Nissans with a CVT. The warranty is I believe for 10 years and 120k miles from original date of purchase, the caveat is that the CVT must be serviced to schedule and with only the proper Nissan spec fluid or the warranty is void. The current CVT's are heavily revised and no longer carry that warranty, just the basic powertrain coverages. For the most part, the current CVT's seems to be holding up very well.
I think the Sentra and Versa are better overall cars then the Corolla and Yaris. However, in terms of reliabiltiy, I would still give the edge to the Corolla and Yaris. If longterm ownership and reliabiltiy are the most important factors, I would pick one of the Toyota's.
My SIL has a gen 2 Yaris. Other than people laughing at it, she has not had any problems with it at all. However it does not even have 100K miles yet. She has had zero repairs. Based on a sampling of one. That is pretty impressive.
I had a recent year Sentra recently for a month while my daily driver was in the shop.
Worst car I have driven in years, and the CVT was one of the factors making the driving experience torturous. The engine in that Sentra, with the CVT, was the most unsatisfying powertrain combination I think I have ever experienced (even compared to a 96 Tracker with about 93 HP and 3 speed auto). It felt gutless, sluggish, unappealing in sound, droning.
Which is odd because I have spent time in a Rogue too, and had a very high opinion of the Rogue.
I would drive the Sentra and Versa before you decide on it. Make sure that particular powertrain is going to drive to your likings.

As one poster stated in another thread...."If felt like the car was being powered by 3 diseased hamsters" LMAO!!!
Get the Corolla or Yaris (if u can handle a car that small). But definitely Toyota over Nissan.
Just because? Or did you just flip a coin and pick Toyota? Or do you like the fact that there are more vowel's in Toyota than Nissan?
What a worthless post.
