When a Nissan Altima is cheaper and looks just like a
Nissan Maxima? It's silly. Why don't Nissan discontinue
one of them or change ones style.

I also imagine the Nissan Maxima does not sell as
good for this reason.

Maxima is suppose to be the top of the line luxury sedan for Nissan without switching to Infiniti. While exterior styling may be similar, what kind of differences are there between the two interiors and features?

It made sense up until the Altima came out with a v6 option. Before then those who wanted a Maxima over the Altima did so because of the difference in their powertrains and size. The maxima had a potent v6 engine while the Altima was equipped win a 4cyl.

Now with the both cars classified as midsized sedans, it seems as if Nissan is shooting itself in their foot and its impacting Maxima sales. For the price of a base Maxima you can get a fully loaded Altima SL with a V6 without having to sacrifice any space or much of a HP difference. 270 for the Altima v6 and 290 for the Maxima.

The Altima is a Mid-size while the Maxima is a full-size heck the Maxima fully loaded is a great bargain into entry level luxury sedans and were even rebadged as the Infinti I30 and Infinti I35 in the Early90's-Mid 00's till they were replaced by the RWD/AWD G35/G37

I went to MSN Autos site and clicked the compare for the Altima and the Maxima. For interior passenger space, the Altima has the Maxima beat in head, shoulder, leg, & hip room. My Hyundai Elantra has nearly the same passenger space as the Maxima. Some measurements my Elantra beats the Maxima. The only thing the Maxima has the Altima beat is exterior size and engine horsepower/torque.

There is not much that is different between the two
cars besides the Maxima having more exterior curves
and a few more interior bells and whistles.

I get the maxima. What I don't get is nissan creating the Altima to compete with the maxima.

Me neither. It's almost like they want to hide the Maxima
and make the Altima the flagship luxury car.

If you took the name plate off the two cars, I'd have trouble picking the Maxima from the Altima.
