Had 2 Maxima's in the past ('89 and '95) and I think at that time, they were one of the best value sport sedans. Each was driven well over 200k with no major issues...
Later on once they started to make them here (instead of Japan) and later having Renault taking 40% of Nissan, they cheapened the brand and quality issues started to surface...
Today I would not consider buying a Nissan.
the Infiniti G sedan is RWD/AWD and CPO and entry level versions cost about the same a Mid-Level to fully loaded Maxima it would make no sense from a manufactures POV to make the Maxima AWD
Look at what Nissan is doing overall. The Sentra now can be had with leather seats. The Versa is inching away from super-compact status as well. I mean, what IS the Pathfinder now, anyway?
The Xterra is what it is. They've stayed true to that. But their other models are just drifting across each other, and they are waaaaaayyy to liberal with their financing. If the sub-prime auto loan bubble bursts, those lots are gonna be crammed full of Nissan cars.
I think this is the game the japanese brands are playing.
There are no AWD sedans in Honda, Toyota or Nissan that I can recall.
If you want an AWD sedan, you have bump up to the Acura, Lexus or Infiniti.

I also owned an 89 along with a '02. The 89 felt much better built than the '02.
The Maxima straight up looks better too IMO, even though it's been out longer.
Not really. Altima looks just as good and the cheaper
cost makes it more attractive too.
