The burnout is serious! I've had that happen. I will get to feeling overwhelmed by my own problems. And it's partly because I'm exhausted from riding someone else's merry-go-round. You gotta take care of you first. It is hard (I'm trying to regroup myself from something similar) but you're just as important as she is.
And venting is good. It helps you know that your feelings have a legitimate basis. Then you can start turning the tide in your favor.
Apparently not! This place is packed with armchair therapists. You should have directed your sister to this site.
I'm laughing but Sydney has a point. Tell her to write in to the Employment thread. I have a strong suspicion those people will back you up and she'll be diverted enough to leave you alone.
I want to start out by saying that I have a good relationship with both of my sisters, but lately, one of them is driving me crazy.
I don't know why, but I feel like I'm everyone's counselor and it's really driving me crazy, so maybe it's just that this pushed me over the edge, I don't know. Somehow I'm the jobs expert among the people around me. I guess it's because I have a successful career by the standard measures (money, promotions) and I've just had a lot of different jobs so I have a lot of experience with resumes, interviews and the like. My parents, sisters and friends come to me for job advice, even though everyone who knows me knows I don't actually like my job (ironic, right?).
Anyway, my sister just called and wants my advice on this job offer. It pays less, but she thinks she will like it more. I ask what the job is and it is very similar to what she's doing now. I told her she's likely to hate this job soon too, so maybe she should stick with what she has. Her current job pays better, has a better 401(k), offers more vacation, and offers overtime, which she uses. I don't really get it because it seems like she is never working and she has total freedom to work whenever and wherever she wants (something I don't think she truly appreciates).
She asked me if the lower pay is a deal breaker. I said, "I have no idea, is it?" Now she seems mad at me for not immediately agreeing with her and telling her want she wants to hear. I'm annoyed because she's calling me at work, where she knows I'm in an open concept office and cannot really take a phone call, and somehow expects me to drop what I'm doing to play counselor. On the other hand, I feel like I should be nicer or something. I'm not usually mean, but come on, I have my own issues...
I guess I'm just venting... does anyone else here get tired of playing therapist?
Tell her to quit calling you are work then tell her to make her own decision about her own job because she is allegedly a mature adult who should be doing so anyway.
