Hi all. Today I ended a 7 year friendship with someone I used to be best friends with. I never thought this would happen. We had a lot of good times and never fought. I don't even know why it ended. There was no argument or fight to explain it. I'm sad but relieved too, I at least have sone sort of closure.

So I guess I'm really just asking for advice/stories. Have you ended a formerly great friendship? How did you feel?

How is it that you claim to have ended this friendship but you don't even know why. It seems the person who ends any relationship has compelling reasons.

Never ended a great friendship, if you don't know why, why did you end it?

I have ended two friendships, but I knew exactly why. I, too, hope the OP will come back and explain herself.

Yes I have ended friendships - when my two supposed "best friends" didn't contact me after my husband died (they knew about it) and when neither one contacted me when I was diagnosed with cancer 8 months after that.

Yes, after I realized it was terribly lopsided, but even worse, it was dragging me down emotionally. Then, when this friend mocked me for being sensitive after she maliciously teased me, I was 100% done and have zero regrets. I sleep just fine at night. If you are comfortable with your decision, I am betting it was the right decision. But, if it's keeping you up at night, don't be afraid to look at it closer

Sounds ambiguous. How do you know you ended anything?

It's not satisfying at all being in any kind of relationship with someone who is just a taker. That's about the only kind of relationship I have ever ended. I don't understand people who don't understand that relationships should be give and take.

You really don't make any sense and contradict yourself.

I mean to read what you wrote it sounds like you met for lunch and the end just stood up at the end and said for no reason "I don't want to be friends anymore, no reason".

Clearly, something went sideways.

And if you want stories, than share what happened. You don't have to give names and dates but a general idea as to how this occurred.
