Do you drive slowly in the fast/passing lane? That is when you will have the most problems with reckless drivers. They are often fast drivers who are weaving around people who insist on driving in the left lane even though they are driving at an unhurried pace.

Nope. Ive only used that lane as a passing lane. I stay out of that lane as much as I can.

I've reported two drunk drivers by calling 911. One actually fell asleep behind the wheel at a drive-through. When he came to, he stepped on the gas, clipped his mirror on the side of the building and drove away. I have serious doubts the cops did anything even with a description and direction of vehicle.

That’s why I sometimes have my doubts about calling. If there isn’t a cop in the area, the driver can get away. It seems like they’d be impossible to catch so the cops don’t bother. I see plenty of cops in the morning on the sides of the interstate with their radar gun but never see any at night when drunk drivers are out. IMO, they should do something similar.

I have called a few times when I saw erratic driving. One time they actually had me stay on the line so that I could tell them where the guy was going (I was behind him). That one really scared me because we were on a two lane road at night and he kept swerving into the oncoming lane and then off the road on the other side. Eventually he turned down a side street and I didn't want to follow so I told the dispatcher that I was getting off the phone. I assume that they caught up to him because I gave his full license plate.

I had another one who was just driving like a complete *****hole and I called the cops. A couple miles down the road I saw him in a ditch. HA! At least no one else was involved in that crash.

I say if you see something then you should call as long as it is safe to do so.

Here are a couple of things that most people don't know...........

If you can give the plate number, and the direction of travel, the Police will do two things....broadcast the information to all cars, and send a car to the home address of the registered owner, to keep a watch for the car returning home.

If you give your cell phone number at the beginning of the 911 call, the operator can re-connect with you if the line drops off. If there is any unusual decal, sign , or slogan on the rear of the suspect vehicle, mention it.... and if it is either very dirty, or very clean, mention that too. It helps the Police to identity WHICH grey Honda civic 4 door you are reporting !

Signs of a drunk driver...no lights on the car, at night. Windows open when it's freezing cold outside. Interior light on, or turn signal on all the time. Stop wrong place at stop sign, or red light. Fall asleep at intersection. Drive over centre line, or on paved shoulder of highway. Drive at an exaggerated slow speed. Wide sweeping turns, hit curbs, park on roadway.

Last week I was in line at the LCBO store in my Toronto neighbourhood. The man ahead of me was swaying, and smelled of alcohol, so the cashier refused to sell him anything. He walked out and got into a blue Toyota. I called it in to 911, and with in about two miles he was stopped by Police.

I gave my name and cell phone number to the P.C. at the scene. He called me about 2 hours later, to tell me that the guy blew a 240, twice. The limit in Ontario is .50, so he was four times over the limit. Car seized, 2 days in jail over the week end , court appearance, pled guilty, one year DL suspension, and a $1000 fine. And his insurance will be sky high for the next three years, IF he can get any insurance, after being found guilty of "Impaired Driving ".

People should not hesitate to call in a suspected drunk driver if they can't provide a plate number. A description of the car, (even if it's just a dark, 4 door Honda sedan), the direction, road, and a mile marker if available, will prompt a response.
