I know it is, I google my name every so often. I still try to limit it when I have a choice.

I don't think anything good every came from Facebook, LinkedIn, Tweet, Myspace or any other social media. Too much personal info out there for all the world to see...
just my 2 cents...

Your personal information doesn't have to be on facebook at all and you can even use a screen name. And you don't have to put where you work or your birthday so not sure what you mean by personal information on facebook,

The only thing "personal" disclosed on my LinkedIn is my name and my resume. My birthday, marital status, etc, are not disclosed. It is used as a networking tool and online resume - nothing more.

Yes, I do the same with Linkedin. This can be said for any social networking site. People who use Linkedin can put as much or as little info as they want to. I exclude things that are personal and even leave out older work history so that it is harder to guess my age range.

I use it to keep in touch with colleagues from past jobs. The discussion groups are useful too. I have been on it for years and only got spam once. I just ignored it. It find it useful as a networking tool.

In theory, LinkedIn is supposed to replace your real life resume but in reality.. most people hire based on actual people they personally know in real life and hire based on word of mouth of friends.

I don't use linked in. It sucks. It's a site for corporate drones to blather on about trying to find new jobs to get paid more to hate their job. I'm a freelance financial analyst, I write about what I want, when I want, and make a decent living doing it.

Linkedin can be useful, but many people use it just to snoop on others for reasons that have nothing to do with professional development.

Yes, LinkedIn has some cons, but so does every other social media. It can be very helpful if you know how to use it properly.

How do you get paid? Just out of curiosity.
