Jerry sounds like a jerk to me. Perhaps Chris doesn't like you guys because of the way you speak to him. And, anyway maybe is an introvert or just a quiet guy. I think your entire family was out of line.

Chris is a handsome super successful Attorney who is just brimming with ego and self importance. He is a partner at one of the leading law firms in NYC. I give him credit for his career success.

The trouble is he is unable to deal with the blue collar working class regular folks in his wife's family. He comes to Thanksgiving and Christmas and acts better than us and carries himself like he is royalty and we are a bunch of white trash.

Finally one of my cousins, Jerry, after a few too many beers did a great job at putting old Chris, the high flying attorney in his place.

JERRY: So Chris, what do you think of Donald Trump? (Everyone in the room looks at both of them to see what will happen.)

CHRIS: (Rolls his eyes and turns away and acts like he did not hear Jerry.

JERRY: Chris, we are still waiting for your answer!

CHRIS: (Rolls his eyes and gives Jerry a smirk and a disapproving look.)

JERRY: So, Chris you are too good to talk to us about current events?

CHRIS: (More eye rolling)

JERRY: Unloads on him and eventually Chris storms out of the house without his wife.

So, did Chris owe Jerry and the rest of us any answer to the Donald Trump question? Who was right and wrong in this situation?
Honestly Chris seems like he's bored and feel out of place. But if I asked someone a question and no answer, I'm leaving that person alone lol.

Sounds like Chris has more class than the rest of the bunch. No this is not ok
I think this "Chris" person has behaved for many years..narcissist type..who always knows it all..never offers personal perspective, much less why he hold's them. I also got the impression Chris' presence has been making many other family members UNCOMFORTABLE a LONG time...SO hey..put this knowledgeable litigious experienced successful, experienced person to the test?? Why not?....Ohhhh I know...

Never talk Religion nor politics....otherwise expect a lot of hard feelings after....(which is usually the common sense Canadian POV btw)

I disagree! If he plans to be part of the family he needs to communicate with us outside of huffing and puffing and silence.

After Chris stormed out everyone clapped and said that it was great that someone put that snob in his place!
Chris bolted..because he knew he was OUT of his element..HE knew he was not in a courtroom..Yikes..No wonder he wimped out and unable to answer the question...LOL

Why didn't just say..my opinions are personal..and say//Political talk just isn't a convo I wish to have in this "Christmas Family" gathering"..But nope..Talk about a unprepared attorney..

Yes...because he has to put with people who are Retired Now. Besides, your sister might just be Rockin' his World, if you know what I mean.

Fact is: Jerry willingly baited Chris on one of the hottest hot buttons in politics right now. That's not right.

You have something against upper middle class professionals... well, that's your problem, Jerry's problem and everyone who applauded... but it's not Chris's problem.
Yep. Not Chris' problem AT ALL. His in-laws are jerks. Everyone knows to never discuss politics at family gatherings. Or Religion.

Chris has not wanted to put up people who are Retired Now. Let's hope he and Retired Now's sister find someplace more warm and welcoming and less judgmental.

Typical holier-than-thou attorney attitude. Its the culmination of years of repressed angst and hatred for others that makes one become a licensed thief like that. I've had my fair share of attorney interactions and their assistants are ALWAYS nicer than they are. I mean can this be refuted?

I personally don't roll my eyes in response to anyone. That is just plain begging for an asz kicking. If I am invited to somebody, anybodies home for any occasion, I very easily take the accommodating and super polite role. I don't understand why this is so hard for people to do. Maybe it's because they've turned into robots without a heart.

The way you present the story, Jerry is the __________________ (noun of negativity), not Chris. You have mainly told us your opinion of Chris, who from what you tell us about his behavior, is the only one who acted politely, even admirably, in the situation you describe. What you tell us of Jerry's actions, OTOH, demonstrates clearly what an _______________ he was.

You may want to brush up on your storytelling skills.

I think that someone should monitor Jerry's alcohol consumption.

Was that your 300 lb sister?

She did pretty well for herself, looks like.

Retired Now is/was a poster who posts under various names about ridiculous topics. Essentially troll bait.

Probably jealous of the length of the other Christmas Dinner thread and was trying to get some competition going. But not near as good as story teller.

Did that include Chris' wife? If you care about your family members, you will be polite to their spouses. Were there any children at that meal? Your family serves alcoholic beverages with children present? Don't be surprised if Chris and his wife are not there at the next meal. If Chris were my husband and my family treated him like Chris was treated, it would be the last time I showed up at a family function.
