Same-same... I've got to spend the day with the in-laws, some of which are tolerable, some of which are prissy little divas, eating food that's not as good as what I can make and yet I "hurt feelings" if I bring something. Actually, I have to bring deserts now because I pissed off one of the divas years ago with a desert that was better than hers (she ran a cake business, but my first attempt was tastier/better than hers). Brought smoked turkey last year because the turkey provided hasn't been cooked through, ever.
*shrug* I go out of obligation to my wife. She goes out of obligation to her mom. I think her mom goes out of obligation to her husband and he almost certainly goes out of guilt/obligation to the host (widower, my father-in-laws brother died of cancer several years back). Actually, I also go because I like the Widower, she's one of my favorite people on the in-law side.
But I'm not into sports so I avoid the TV and "guys". Not into babies so I avoid those and the women who dote on them. I take a book and hide in a corner and read. I also have to avoid food that might have meat/eggs in them and come from certain households as I don't want food poisoning.
Yey.... fun times ahead. But first, back to cleaning floors/house.... (normal chore day for that).
I bet one of them is likely writing about Subaru on the CD forum: 'I have this family member who is nice enough, but comes to dinner and sulks in the corner the entire time like a teenager. The only time he pipes up is when he wants to prattle on about politics, and doesn't care about anyone else. Jesus on a minibike, we are subjected to politics 364 days a year. Can we have just ONE day where we don't have to hear about it?'
I have family today with me, but I try to remember all the people who don't have anyone to be with and are lonely today.
Yes, me too.
But for me Thanksgiving don't mean much because I didn't grow up with it, but it's a day to eat a lot and watch boring football ( unless Seahawks playing )..
