The newer red license plates seem harder to read than the older blue ones. Anyone know the reason behind the color change??

I want to know, too! I even asked my cousin who is a cop and he said he had no idea and he almost pulled someone over because he thought it was a fake plate! lol

DH said the DMV has been advertising their new red plates for 6 months now. I don't know why my husband cares cares, but he renewed his plates and came home talking about the change in license plates like it was something totally cool. *shrugs*

Here's the link: read the attached PDF file

I heard the blue ink was not holding up as well as they expect the red to.

So funny! Hubby bought a new car and license plates came in the mail...red. He thought it was because the car salesman told the DMV to send him a red plate to MATCH THE RED CAR!!!

thanks -- I guess that makes sense...there are some faded blue ink tags, but the red ink just seems so much harder to see (at night AND during daylight)!

You can see the state really has only used 5 designs.

I think the new custom plates might be in blue letters except my favorite the blue ridge parkway has a cool mountain background
