I am really impressed with the down east partnership for children in rocky mount. They have both wonderful indoor and outdoor facilities to create a fun family learning environment. The progrms are age group specific and the coordinators put much effort into making the playgroups a memorable time. My daughter enjoys playing and interacting with kids her age and the activities seem to stimulate her development. Kudos for the program being free to all. Double kudos for the facility being in the heart of the poor section of town. Many times some neighborhoodkids will be walking or riding their bikes past an event and the coordinators will invite the kids to participate. It is these positive moments that can really help a child gain self esteem and learn proper social behavior. I know that the coordinators will walk the neighborhood going door to door to get more underprivilidged families involved. PNC bank just donated a 100k to the depc program. The downtown area continues to look impressively better. A pediatrician, computer store, and gift store and some of the permanent tenants downtown. I love the streetscaping with the extra wide brick sidewalks, retro streetlamps, newly planted trees, and benches. Im proudof the great strides rocky mount is making. Sorry for spelling, done on a phone.

@Tenne - DEPC sounds like an impressive program for kids that will quickly have a very positive impact on the entire community. And in the long-term sense, any such program that helps kids build self-esteem and learn "proper social behavior" in a kid-friendly environment will do wonders toward helping those kids become tomorrow's leaders and build a brighter future for us all in tomorrow's world.
