Hi, all. I expect to move to Western NC in a few years and hope to continue my teaching career. As a NYC teacher, I do not lose my Social Security even though I also have a teacher pension. Can someone tell me what the situation is in NC? Do teachers there get their teacher pension and Social Security, or must they give up one for the other?

Thanks in advance.

This doesn't answer my question. It is really a simple one. In some states, teachers stop having social security taken out of their checks, since they have a teacher pension. Thus, when they retire, they are not eligible for Social Security. Is NC such a state? If there are any teachers on this forum, and I know there are, you can answer this question for me. Thanks. Maryellen

Yes, NC public school teachers do contribute into the Federal Social Security system in addition to their own state retirement system plan.
