Hi all,

Looking to relocate from Scotland to either Florida, Texas or North Carolina We've lived and worked in Florida before in 1994/95 so feel very comfortable there and holiday there often so Florida is the hot fav!

I think the choice will likely be made by jobs! Im an Occupational Therapist so there are opportunities aplenty for me whereever we go in the States and I am being sponsered for an Eb2 green card visa. My hubby however is in a more specialised field and we are not sure what the supply and demand is for his profession so I thought I thought I would ask you good people your thoughts

My hubby is a field service x ray engineer. He used to work for GE and currently works for Fujifilm (two pretty major international companies) so has lots of experience with all diagnostic imaging equip including vascular, MRI, CT and some nuclear medicine. He has also worked as an electrical engineer within healthcare environments in his hey day!

What are job opportunities like in North Carolina for this type of speciality would you say? I know jobs are generally not aplenty ANYWHERE in the states really, so we need to chose one where he is MOST likely to be successful in getting employment

Many thanks all

Sorry to say, I would not look to come to NC in these medical fields right now. Texas has a much better economy, and more jobs in the medical field. Best of luck to you

If you're basing it on employment (good move, BTW, rather than moving somewhere and THEN starting to think about how you're going to get a job), then say hello to Texas (among those three states).

Here are the state-by-state unemployment figures as of December, 2009. NC and Florida are both in the 10 worst. Texas is in the top half (where "top" is good, as it's laid out).

If you're interested in NC I would think the Triangle area would be a good place to look for that field. I don't know if you'll find anything, but the concentration of medical facilities is relatively higher in this region than in some other regions of NC.
