It's going to bring out people on the left in droves who hadn't planned on voting; oh, they will be sure to have ID, etc, etc.

Why do repubs think the dems have all day to plot voter fraud or even want to vote more than once, heck, it takes all the effort in the world to get people to vote ONCE....lol, to get a fake ID and vote twice? This goes to show just how out of touch with reality and the common man some people are.

You can't win continue to gerrymander and rig elections with the upcoming shift in demographics, it has to be policy.

What is even more ironic is that the repubs (with whites as majority in the country) are rebuking the very laws that ould benefit them 50-100+ years from now when they're the new minority....only the good Lord could see fit to this.

One of my favorite passages: Job 20:5 - That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment.

I don't think they see it comin....much like a Black president.
It's so true... history fully supports your assessment here. The more they take these small "victories", the more they're losing the war. It was bad enough and we saw what happened from targeting minorities, the young, the poor, and women when those groups were clearly in the minority... now? Talk about doubling down on a losing strategy.

In the end, this simply gives a small handful of folks a fist pump and an oh yeah short term - all while awakening the very groups that have proven time and time again they will come out in droves to protest over and over tirelessly until they are heard. Maybe for them it's a last stand of sorts... they know they can't ever win a national election again.

Voter Found Party Affiliation Changed
RALEIGH: Voter found party affiliation changed | Politics | NewsObserver.com
By Craig Jarvis— cjarvis@newsobserver.com

RALEIGH — New concerns over voter fraud surfaced on Wednesday.
A Raleigh woman’s party affiliation was changed without her knowledge from Independent to Republican after a man who was apparently working with a Wake County GOP voterregistration drive filled out a change-of-address form for her last month...

Eh, people were wondering if the democrats were losing relevance back in the 80s back when Reagan and Bush won by massive landslides (right after Nixon won by landslides as well). All they had to do to bring it back was to shift their positions to the center a bit, and we got Clinton. I suspect Republicans will eventually be forced to consider that strategy and they'll go for it.

For me to believe the Republicans are actually in any real danger I need to see the dems win yet another term in the oval office--by a convincing amount. And then a fourth. Four terms really is the signal that a realignment has occurred, because after FDR and Truman, neither party has held the presidency for more than three consecutive full terms. It's too early right now to say stuff like 'the Republicans are dying off'. Too dangerous, I think. They still have Karl Rove working for them, and they developed the very cunning plan of targeting all these swing state governments right before the census and gerrymandering those states hard to create permanent majorities. That has entrenched their influence in the House of Representatives for some, regardless of what the general population thinks.

Exactly.

I am sure it has nothing to dow ith the fact that the research has shown that in NC, voters without IDs are more likely to vote Democrat. If this trend were opposite (voters without ID were more likely to vote Republican), this bill never would have been passed by a Republican-led legislature. That is a fact. Period. Anyone who thinks this is not the case, and that this all just about, "preventing voter fraud," is kind of a clueless idiot.

That said, if voters without ID were more likely to vote Republican, it would be the Democrats that were trying to get these kinds of laws passed, likely by using the same, unfounded arguments.

I always though we should require something like a right thumb print on every ballot. Every ballot gets scanned and if 2 or more of the same print show up those ballots are discarded.

The Daily Show was kind enough to mock the new law last night. Those that have a sense of humor, it's on the website or you can catch it on hulu. Enjoy

More to the point, shortening the early voting window and eliminating same day registration do nothing to curb voter fraud. These are transparently efforts to keep people from voting. Eliminating Sunday voting blatantly targets the black population. What is their rationale for that? "Fraudsters vote on Sunday"?

Ridiculous. We had a good system and now they're making it a pain in the ass to vote. It's spiteful and counterproductive. If they were at all concerned about voter fraud they would've had more stringent requirements for absentee ballots, which are the main targets for voter fraud.

Not surprisingly they left those alone because 1) voter fraud is almost nonexistant, and 2) republicans are more likely to utilize absentee voting.

Boy, you sure are a voice of reason, aren't you! Truth be told, if it was the other way around and the dems had imposed voter ID, you would be crying like someone stole your bicycle, but I forgot, the Republicans can't do no wrong in your eyes, it's so good to see that they have such mind control over you!

While your response was not directed to me, I disagree. If the state said you have to present a photo ID I would say "oh well, no big deal, I've got a license already".

If I did not have one I would say "well, voting is important to me so I will take some time to get an ID". Based on the last few years of voter turnout however I would say most people are apathetic about it and don't care one way or the other.

I keep hearing from opponents of this law that the poor and elderly will NEVER be able to make it to the DMV to get an ID. If that is the case, how have they been able to get out of their house to vote in the past? How many North Carolinians are forever stuck in their homes, unable to run any errands whatsoever? How do they buy food?
