By moving the Fed. payment to Medicaid and then the Fed. govt. paying 100% for three? years and then the state is only on the hook for 10%.

The 1.5 Billion in the current State budget to cover Medicaid can then go to other areas. I saw this and was waiting for an excuse from the Gov. to take advantage of this.

If he follows through its a win win for the entire state.

Well, think about it...NC is paying plenty in federal tax dollars, which are then being sent to other states for Medicaid payments. I don't think for one minute that doctors love Medicaid or Medicare reimbursement rates, but hospitals have to treat lots of these people anyhow. So, no Medicare expansion, how do hospitals get paid??? Just a guess, but they charge the rest of us more?? So, I'm guessing Gov. McCrorys friends in hospital admin have bent his ear on this issue. While I accept that some docs don't take Medicaid patients, I bet there are many who do, and they are also losing out.

I thought it was to bring some fiscal sanity to the state budget without having to accept a bunch of federal strings attached? Where do you think this federal money is going to come from? Look in the mirror for an answer.

Refusing Medicaid expansion was "bringing fiscal sanity"?!? Oh brother. So EVERY OTHER state is insane? You're drinking the Kool-Aid. Spare me the fiscal responsibility BS. You've demonstrated only a very elementary understanding of the issue, with all due respect. We'd get a lot more than we give, and those federal dollars will be spent whether NC wants to act like an adult or not.

And that deficit is being made up somewhere. Try looking in the mirror, lol.

Or are these churn mills like the dental clinics that came up with all kinds of assembly line procedures? I just don't picture the average MD or hospital being excited about that prospect but looks like I need to read more.
Well, it's not free. Medicaid is payed with tax dollars. Most people who support expanding Medicaid say that we already pay into the system, so we should bring as much back to NC as possible. The federal government pays for 100% of the Medicaid expansion for the first 3 years and then they pay 90% after that. I think it's a smart move. Most of the opposition to expanding Medicaid seems to be ideological, not logical.

So it's free money? No strings? No risk? Therefore the GOP opposition is out of spite for the poor? Or is it Bill of Rights which I never see them argue but is my main question.

In other words, do we do things because it is a "win" or is "good" because morally we should even if we feel it is illegal?

Is it the cause that matters more than the law?

Every other? I'm used to you being colorful buy most of the time you're not this far off base. North Carolina is the only state not accepting the expansion?

And if all the other states jumped of a bridge should NC?

Not perfect but if you are given two bad choices do you always go with the least worst or do you sometimes make the "correct" decision and suffer?

Morality and legality are two different things. The ACA, which includes Medicaid expansion, is the law of the land.

The GOP opposition is out of spite for Obama, plain and simple.
