Not gonna happen. Sorry, just too far...even in the middle looking at over one hour, probably hour and quarter...Lexington, Thomasville, but you will have HUGE REGRETS!

Charlotte and Durham are not 2 hours apart. More like 2.5 and possibly 3 if there are weather or traffic issues. Are you each really willing to commute 90 minutes from a central place?

Maybe Asheboro, though I can't attest to the quality of schools. Even then, your husband would have a 70 mile commute on 49. You'd have it easier - 64 miles on 4 lane roads, but you are only allowed to do 55 most of the way; down to 35 on the stretch through Ramseur.

Honestly? I'd recalibrate your job prospects and choose one area or the other.

I agree that's pretty wretched. I would pick one place or the other. Which job is better and which job-seeker is more likely to get another offer? I do know a few folks who commute from Chapel Hill to Greensboro, but it's usually just temporary for a few years while they take a class or something similar. I wouldn't plan to do that. If you're set on it I'd look at Winston-Salem, but you'd each have about a 1.5 hr commute.

Charlotte / Durham commute is a nonstarter IMO. Lie,others have suggested, I would revisit the employment scenario. Good luck!

Thank you all for your response. we will really think about it prior to making decision. it's just that we have been looking for jobs here in NC for a while now and so far this seems to be the ones that might make an offer. To be honest I really do not want to commute that far especially with kids.
