My husband will know next week if he's getting a job at the Fayetteville airport. What areas would you recommend we move to? He is currently commuting 1 hr each way and would be ready for the same, so we can be quite outside of Fayetteville. We have an elementary age child, so looking for good school districts, safe. I don't mind researching but need names.
There are a number of Cities/Towns you could live in and be less than one hour away. We live about 15 miles east of Dunn (Harnett County), out in the country in neighboring Sampson County. I would estimate that it would be about a 30 minute commute right down Interstate 95. Here is a link: Chamber of Commerce Dunn, North Carolina, apartments, motels, jobs
You could also Google search Pinehurst and Southern Pines. That is a nice area, more upscale than Dunn, but Dunn has everything in a condensed shopping area.
Hi there, we are in a similar circumstance and have focused on the Fuquay-Varina and Willow Springs area. There is a good elementary school in N. Harnett county (Lafayette elementary) but am not sure about how the middle and high school programs are that it feeds into.
I'll start researching the places mentioned but keep them coming. I'm anxious about moving because I'll have to give up my job (I'm a French teacher) and probably find a way to work from home. I'm working on becoming a translator but I'd probably also offer tutoring... Any other suggestions?
We live in Sanford, NC - it's in Lee County. It's about 45-60 minutes from Fayetteville depending on the traffic. The nice thing about Sanford is that you're also only 35-45 minutes from Apex, Cary, and Raleigh. I work in Raleigh and my husband works in Fayetteville and we've found Sanford to be a good middle point. No children but friends say elementary and middle schools in the area are good; but highschool is not great although getting better.
