Many of the top innovative businesses in the country are in Maryland suburbs of DC. Maryland is often ranked the wealthiest state in the country. Boston, and economic and academic powerhouse of the country. All of these cities lean liberal and are in left leaning states. California, Massachusetts, Maryland, New York.

States with right wing economic policies like Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, etc have...............
And then there's this, from none other than the Harvard Business Review:

Non-Discrimination Laws Make us More Innovative

But meanwhile, McCrory and his puppeteers in the NC legislature are more concerned with keeping transgender people from going to the bathroom or allowing same-sex couples to marry each other legally than they are bringing business to the state or investing in sound education.

The smart folks who are creating businesses care more about innovation and making their business thrive than they do deciding what rules from somebody's religion to make their employees (and customers) follow.

Alabama has Redstone Arsenal/NASA and Cummings Research Park, as well as the country's 9th busiest port by tonnage. SC has the highest amount of international investment per capita in the country. And of course, there's Texas.

I'm a liberal-minded guy myself but the typical left/right wing dichotomy doesn't tell the entire story when it comes to state economies, and I recognize that on the whole, Southern conservative states have a ways to go in that area. Historically NC has struck a good balance between taxes and economic development and was a model for the South.

" it is the state government that is the problem and are trying to ruin the state."

Is your opinion based on the repbs have taken over?

Did you complain when the dems ran the state for 100 YEARS?

Context DOES matter.

The half of the state that votes for people like McCrory and his ilk. The other half is awesome!

"Conservative" in business, means "anti-worker" with the average worker getting paid a lot less than in the states you mentioned and they have little to no worker's rights. North Carolina never seem to make the Top 10 States Happiest Employees list!

Many people have moved to NC because of it's cheap housing and property taxes. But cheaper doesn't necessarily mean better. Mcdonald's is cheaper than Ruth's Chris Steak House. Charlotte is cheaper than San Francisco!

Perhaps, with the shrinking of the middle class, North Carolina is a better fit for those who have fallen a few rungs down the economic ladder from the higher and pricier rungs of the Northeast and California. If you're so enamored with NC, you'll absolutely love Mississippi, West Virginia and Alabama!
"North Carolina's idiot legislature..."

Just 1 question. Are you registered Democrat?

It is incredibly naive to believe that lower corporate taxes benefit the average middle or low income worker.

Texas has no income tax but has property taxes that rival those of the Northeast and has insanely high tolls on many of their roads (want to fly out of DFW airport; better have $20 for the toll road to get in!)

North Carolina has been attractive to business and innovators because of the presence of a the presence of higher-education institutions and and overall investment in education.

Mississippi has low taxes too...I don't see people flocking there.

Maybe so, BUT your money is going FURTHER then MOST states.

Oh, you men like John Edwards, N.C native and Senator.

His "law suits" cost us a lot and the result was doctors LEAVING the state.

We are just now recovering.
