Hello,
I want to buy land and use a 2 story shed for conversion into a tiny vacation house. As I understand that the house should be brought to a building code.

Did someone try it? Can you please share any useful and important information, like how to start?
Does it worth it?

Thank you.

Put it on a concrete slab and don't tell your wife.

Does the land already have any sort of home (or other bldg) on it?

So... it DOES have an old house? Leave it be for the time being.

Focus on what is required to have power ... and the water/sewage at the site.
When you can answer that ... then the rest of the Q's can be addressed.

I would wonder if the shed's wood is in good condition. If it has any rot, it probably would be better to start from scratch.

Start with the local planning/building inspections office in the county where the land is located.

A lot will depend on whether you intend to run power/water/sewer to it. If it's off grid I'd assume there's a LOT less regulation as it's basically just a comfortable shed at that point.

The second of these references is very clear about the building codes that have to be met.

Thanks everyone for your input, I will take a look. For some reason I didn't receive any email notifications that someone responded.
