My husband & I are thinking about moving to Charlotte/Ballantyne area from Long Island. The reason for the move would be to provide our son (a toddler) and future children a better way of life. We both long for a slower pace; where our kids have room to run, enjoy sports, get involved in the community. After reading some posts, I am now concerned that our family would not be welcomed and fear that moving would be a bad decision. Any thoughts of areas that do welcome families from the north?
There are a good amount of people coming from Long Island. You should fit in just fine. I would not worry to much about the Negative posts about NY'ers
We relocated from Long Island (Plainview) in 1998 -- first to South Charlotte (Ballantyne area) and now in Union County. For our family it was one of the best things we ever did. I have always felt welcome here...can't even imagine going back north. My blood has thinned Feel free to PM me if I can assist in any way -- For starters I can get you a relocation kit if you like.
I live in Ballantyne and my neighbors on all sides are from Northern VA, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. It's a very nice area and very diverse. It would be a great place to raise your family.
Union country property taxes are less. Waxhaw would be a great choice and it's close to shopping but in the country. Just stay South. Or Southeast like Matthews-Mint Hill, more populated. Try city-data.com
My husband and I are seriously considering moving to Charlotte from Maryland/DC area. We visited Charlotte for a week and liked everything so far, however a week was not long enough to find out everything. Can someone please give me a honest opinion on crime, and job availabilities. I have been reading alot about the out of control crime and very high home foreclosures on starter homes. Why are starter homes in the $100k-$175k price ranges foreclosing? I am concerned that there are no jobs out there and that is why people can't afford these low mortgages. Is this true?
Any insight on the state of economy in Charlotte would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
