Does anyone have any advice on getting a job out there? I have a college education in Engineering and looking out there to make some money and pay off my bills. I have my H2S safety certification but no experience in the fields. However ,I do have experience with CNC, heavy machining, mathematics etc etc. Could foreign language be beneficial? I speak Spanish and Portuguese.

Is it possible to apply for entry level positions online? I'll literally take anything. Would I have to move there first? Does anyone have any good advice?

Oh, I am American.. I'm just abroad right now and have to come back and find some new work. I'm from Michigan and that's likely where my home base will be while I search for new work. Just because I'm a college student, I am not adverse to physical labor. I grew up in a blue collar family in Michigan and have been working the factories since I was 16. I'm very comfortable with those kind of things. I'm not really looking for advice on staying away and what I'll like and won't like.. I need a job to make money and just looking for some advice on breaking in to the industry.

Do a search for Lufkin industries. They are headquartered in East Texas and manufacture oilfield equipment. They have jobs in the manufacturing center in East Texas as well as jobs in all the hot shale oil fields.

Your Spanish would serve you well in the Eagle Ford shale just south of San Antonio, and near Midland.

Lufkin Industries is wholly owned by GE (I think) so a move up could be made without changing employers.

There is big money to be made, but you must pay your dues, that means.working where the work is, getting by on what you get paid, and doing the work offered.

Cheers

I'm 26 years old, no wife, no kids.. just a house payment.. oh wait.. NOT, I meant college debt

I grew up a hard worker and that's exactly what I'm looking for. Hard work and moving up the ladder.

Thanks for the advice and I'll definitely look into the places in Texas also. I was really considering the Houston/Texas area due to my Spanish skills.

Thank you for the quick response and for helping me get pointed in the right direction. I'm pretty new to looking into this industry because I was studying Aerospace Engineering.. however I do have a lot of skills in electronics, fluid mechanics, programming which could be marketable after getting an entry level spot in the manual labor part.

That all looks really cool, and I'm starting to feel a little better about my debt and bleak economy.
