This is my first post in this forum. My family and I will be getting to return to Dickinson later this year. We can't wait. We have lived there two other times. Once for about 1 1/2 years and then again for about a year. We have lived many places, but loved Dickinson the best. We live in Mississippi now, but plan to be returning to Dickinson after my 2 daughters get out of school for the summer. I have a job lined up already (Thanks be to God). So now we are looking for a rental house. I haven't seen anything on Realtor.com -Rentals. Any help out there for the best way to locate rental houses there? We'd eventually like to buy a house (North of town would be our preference) It is me, my wife, our 2 daughters (10 and 14), and 3 cats.
As a Landlord, I will only accept 1 pet per household, and then with a $500 additional pet deposit. I am in Jamestown. I will say each LL has their own policies. Most will not accept any pets.
I don't think it is just a Jamestown thing. You have obviously not seen the damage pets can do to a rental. I network with landlords all across the country and many will not accept any pets at all.
Now I would bet Dave is probably a stand up guy, and his cats are just fine, but once you have seen and smelled the damage pets can do, you might just understand.
Davednorris,
Looking for rentals is always a problem, especially in smaller towns. Visit Dickinson's website at: Dickinson, ND - Live Here, Work Here - Get Your Life Back! . Contact the Chamber of Commerce for real estate agencies and property management companies in town. They normally have a complete list of businesses in town and should be able to help you. I've always like the museum in Dickinson. ct
Your right Corbay. It is funny how so many people with pets think their house smells fine, but there isn't much a person can do to cover up the smell of a pet. I think pet owners just get used to the smell. I walk into friends houses who have cats or dogs, and you can definately tell they have the run of the house...no matter how much air freshner and burning candles they use.
Get rid of the cats......then you might have a chance of a rental apt.
Pets are just not welcome in most rental situations....things are tight in Dickinson because of the oil boom. Don't get your hopes up for a house...maybe an apt w/out the cats.
Good luck !!

Reason: town
I have another suggestion. Keep your beloved pets and find a new relocation area. The area you have chosen is obviously not for people who are compassionate toward pets.

You are clueless. Has NOTHING to do with location.
