I'll be staying near stroudsburg in early-mid October for a couple nights. Our goal is to see some good fall foliage and visit an apple farm. We'll have a 16-month old with us, so that will be something to consider for park visits. We'd like a nice hike in the forest with some good views of fall foliage (or a drive through foliage with stops along the way), and we'd like to visit a nice apple farm (cider and the like). This will be on weekdays, and we're willing to travel ~30 min-1hr from stroudsburg to see the sites. Any suggestions?

Thanks for any help,
S

Here are three listings for Monroe County:

Goulds Produce and Farm Market
Frable Road PO Box 1556
Brodheadsville PA 18322
717-992-5615

Heckman Orchards
RR 3Box 2180
Effort PA 18330
717-629-1191
www.heckmanorchards.com

Regina Farms Garden Center
5181 Milford Road
East Stroudsburg PA 18301
570-223-8358

I am not familar with Regina Farms Garden Center. I do know that Heckman Orchards has been around for many years.
As far as apple cider: I don't know. I think that many of the old presses have closed for one reason or another. I remember taking our apples to the press and all the bees that surounded the place.

As far as hiking and foliage: Try Big Pocono. There are some trails on the top that give you a great view. If you want to stretch your legs; you could also take the four and a half mile walk to Deep Lake from the top of Big Pocono.

Have a good time on your visit!

Quiet Valley Harvest Festival is Oct 6 & 7 which is a weekend.

There is also Apple Blossom Village down in Lower Mt. Bethel area which is good for little ones. My younger son went to a couple of birthday parties there when they first opened which was about 2002.

DWG National Recreation Area is just north of Shawnee along River Road. Nice foliage, hiking trails, scenic river views, and so on.

Thanks for the help! I have a followup question about DWG National Rec Area. Do you know of a specific walk/hike or area that would be best for a toddler and for foliage views? I know one can spend a lot of time looking for trails in a big recreation area, so we'd like to pin down some areas ahead of time. Thanks!

I think Quiet Valley Farm is a great idea but it isn't an apple farm. It does have a lot of old time working areas. The best views I have ever had in PA. was to go to Big Pocono. You head for the Camelback ski area but keep heading up to the top. When you get to the top it has awesome views. There are picnic tables for a nice lunch and some viewing machines. A nice place for dinner is the Stroudmoor Inn( up top a big mountain with a cute store also) or the Willowtree Inn.( downtown by river)

Default McDade Recreation -

Punch these coordinates to google map -- 41.029692,-75.052074
It's the McDade Recreation Are with a long trail along the Delaware River. There are a few other parking spots, but this one is the biggest. You have to pay for the state park parking fee though.

Dingmans Falls in Dingmans Ferry area off Route 209 is a nice boardwalk trail, easy for a toddler, nice woods. Short.

Raymondskill Falls, also along 209, another nice area.

The trail at Dunnfield Creek -- the parking lot on the NJ side of Interstate 80, in the actual Delaware Water Gap (cross the bridge headed east and get off at the first turnoff, I believe) is a bit steep but a wonderful hike with a nice creek along the trail. The gap will have wonderful foliage in mid-October.

The McDade Trail runs most of the length of the Delaware in our area and there are a lot of pulloff parking areas that don't require a fee.

good time with the little ones, and it isn't that far from Stroudsburg.

Another good thing to do with kids is Pocono Snake and Animal Farm, which is in Marshal's Creek, close to Stroudsburg.
