I am looking at the NE area of Pa to move soon. I have mentioned to a few people and they told me to check in to the "weird" taxes, privileged to work taxes, etc. Can anyone fill me in on tax issues in PA. When I do a google search i just get the state and IRS stuff.

yup. varies with you occupation and your employer will probably take it out of the 1st pay of the year.

Not that big a deal, really. Just another tax to gripe about.

Federal Income Tax
Penna Income Tax
Local Tax - Not all are uniform, many are 1%, some higher, depends on the municipality
Municipal Property Tax, millage varies
School Property Tax, millage varies
EMS Tax, which I believe is $52.00+-/year
Local Employment Tax (I used to pay $10.00/year when I was employed, but it depends on your municipality.)
I also pay my municipality a Recycling Fee and a Sewer Fee. (That Sewer Fee is in addition to another Sewer Fee that I pay to the Valley Sewer Authority)
A Levee Maintenance Fee because I live near the river.
Since my municipality doesn't have trash pick-up, I have to pay a private hauler to take away my refuse. The hauler charges $3.00/per container. However, some areas do have municipal pick-up and you pay an annual fee -depends on where you live how much it will be.

Sure you want to live here?

Depends on the locale and the type of work. My husband is self-employed and doesn't pay anything, but some occupations, you do. Sorry can't be more specific; you'd need to call whatever municipality you're thinking of moving to. They are local taxes, not state taxes. State taxes - your basic income tax on whatever you make, deductions, etc., just like fed. taxes.

PA tax code has a provision that lets you assign 75-90% of your business tax payment to an educational organization or scholarship fund. It's called the EITC (Educational Improvement Tax Credit) and your accountant can explain the details.
