That's awful! I don't think Fernwood did that, but I'm not sure who paid their airfare or what kind of program they were on. If you hustled, you could make quite a bit of money over the summer up there, but most of it was in tips. This was back before you had to declare tips and pay taxes on them.

There's never enough food for a growing boy. I remember mom shouting, "That was for dinner!". Oops. I'm going back outside.

I'll call you nothing at all, b/c it scared the bejesus out of me also....lol

Gosh, even now, I used to walk my dog at 4 in the morning, after watching the walking Dead, and that was just a few years ago...and believe you me, after watching the Walking Dead, you hear all kinds of noise out there at that time in the morning, especially when the clouds are low and sound seems to bounce off of them and be even louder...LOL

yeah, I think Fisheye is right, b/c I had heard some pretty awful stories about those people....? They had a reputation for being very cheap and paying their workers minimum wages but worked them over time?

I had caddied at Buck Hill Falls for three years when I was young. As I became an older teen I would hang around with the waitresses and I heard many stories about how they were treated. Yes; some of the cocktail waiters and waitresses made decent money - but that was more like the carrot on the stick. Many complained about all of the deductions at the end of the summer when they had to return home. Of course this is all third hand information from many, many years ago. I also do not know if they took advantage of other services that cost them additional 'withdrawals' at the end of the year?

I did have one friend that claimed he was making big bucks a cocktail water at Mount Airy.

PS I had my side window kicked out by one waitress from Buck Hill. I had stopped at a local bar about one half mile away from the Inn. There the bartender asked me if I would give the one, totally drunk, waitress a ride back to the dorm at the Inn. I said yes; since it was really not out of my way. I got about half way back when she woke up, screamed, and kicked my passenger side window out! No good deed goes unpunished! Fortunately a new side window from the junk yard only cost me $5 back then and I replaced it myself.

cool fisheye!

I had the back right window kicked out of my 87 Ford Crown Vicky Prowler by a handcuffed 40 yr. old Crackhead not even a week after I was issued the car when I was promo'ed to Senior Investigator.

she also spit all over and 'messed' herself on the seats too.

Next day at roll, my boss jokingly said; 'This is why Luke can't have nice things.'

Kind of like The Walking Dead. They don't have a personality at that point.
