Hi, everyone.

As my previous post several weeks ago mentioned, I currently live in Sun Valley in Effort. I am no longer comfortable in this neighborhood and am looking to hopefully move. So far, though, I’ve narrowed my search down to Pleasant Valley school district only. My daughter is in kindergarten and I have always been under the assumption that PV is the only decent school district in the county. I’ve always said I wouldn’t send her to any other school district in this county.

However, after speaking to a co-worker who lives in Brodheadsville and happens to make the same commute I do, he told me PV has gotten much worse. So my question is, is PV really THAT much better than the rest of the school districts in the county? Would it NOT be unwise to perhaps look elsewhere? I’d like to know, basically, how all the school districts compare to one another. Correct me if I’m wrong, but one of Pocono Mountain East/West is bad, and the other not as much so? And the East Stroudsburg schools I believe are bad news. Perhaps I’m totally misinformed.

I’m gonna come right out and say it, that I do not feel comfortable sending her to a very “multicultural” school. The more “multicultural” the school, the worse it is. So that being said, would it be a bad idea to consider any of the other districts? And which ones are best avoided? Should I stick with my current plan and stay in PV district at all costs?

Thanks.

If you live in Sun Valley your children will go to PV. If you want less multicultural school then stick with PV. School is who you associate with and who your friends are. If your kids hang with other good kids then it doesn't matter the "color" of the school.

There is no Mayberry RFD anywhere in this world....so whether you like it or not kids are going to encounter "undesirables" no matter what....What may seem to one as a bad school district may not necessarily be as bad as the ones in big city's such as Newark, Brooklyn, the Bronx, or any other place....it's what you make of it and teach your kids how to deal with certain situations that makes the difference....

East Stroudsburg schools are not "bad news". South is better than North in terms of the percentage of students receiving free/reduced priced lunches and in terms of test scores. That's because it's cheaper to live up North and poor people gravitate there.

For the record our kids went to Catholic school but we live in the ES South district. Despite being Catholic schoolers we interacted with other families through ESYA football, Little League, etc. I really never saw anything wrong with East Stroudsburg schools.

My main question remains... Is PV still far and away the best school district to be in?

The "best" is totally subjective. You'll have to do your own research (yes, asking for anecdotes on C-D counts as research) and make your own decision for your family. Good luck!
